A spacious and grounded environment for deep workBringing Therapy Outside
I offer walking therapy sessions throughout Reno - including the Truckee River Trail, the neighborhoods of Midtown, Northwest Reno, Caughlin Ranch, and South Reno.
For clients seeking a deeper immersion, hiking sessions are available within 30-45 minutes of Reno toward the Tahoe basin, ((Note: Details regarding travel time, location selection, and associated driving fees are discussed prior to booking.)
Why Movement Matters In Therapy
Lower the "Wall": Side-by-side connection can feel less intimidating than face-to-face, helping you speak more freely.
Support Regulation: The bilateral movement of walking naturally helps the brain process trauma and reduces the intensity of "survival mode."
Deepen Presence: Engaging with sunlight, trees, and earth helps ground you in the "here and now," making it easier to step out of overthinking and into your body.
Scheduling Note: Outdoor Walk & Talk and Hiking sessions are offered exclusively on Thursdays and Fridays (subject to favorable weather conditions).
Therapy for relationshipsFAQs
-
Outdoor therapy integrates movement and nature into our clinical framework. Sitting face-to-face across from a therapist can sometimes feel intense or restrictive—especially when processing trauma, high anxiety, or feeling dysregulated. Moving side-by-side naturally lowers autonomic arousal, reduces pressure, and allows difficult emotions to feel more spacious and manageable.
-
O.utdoor therapy may not be the right fit if:
You carry high levels of active trauma or hyper-vigilance: Public spaces naturally come with unpredictable stimuli (passing strangers, unexpected noises, dogs). If your nervous system is on high alert, navigating an open environment can increase sensory overload rather than decrease it.
You are easily distracted: If outside sights, sounds, or environmental changes make it hard to track your thoughts, maintaining therapeutic focus can feel exhausting.
You require quiet, contained stillness to feel safe: Some clients need the predictable, private boundaries of a cozy office room (without ambient noise or visual movement) to feel secure enough to access deep, vulnerable emotions.
During our initial consultation, we’ll assess your baseline together to ensure we choose the therapeutic environment that offers you the most safety, containment, and support.
-
Sessions are adapted entirely to your pace. This is not a fitness workout. It is therapy in motion. We can walk slowly, pause at a bench, or stand in the shade whenever you need to.
-
Depending on your location and my availability, I will offer a variety of options that are best suited to our purpose.
If you have a place you’d like to meet or a usual walking path, please do suggest it, and I will let you know whether we can make that work.
-
If there is rain, heat, hazardous smoke, or snow, we can easily pivot to a virtual telehealth session or reschedule.
-
While I cannot guarantee 100% environmental privacy in public spaces, we intentionally select quieter routes and times. Before our first outdoor session, we establish a simple plan for how to handle passing others (e.g., pausing a sensitive topic until we have physical space again or simply acknowledging someone with a friendly nod).
-
Standard hourly rates apply to all therapy sessions. For outdoor hiking or trail sessions that require travel beyond the primary Reno area, an additional travel fee is calculated based on distance. I will always let you know the exact add-on amount in advance so you have complete clarity before booking.
-
Outdoor sessions are typically booked one appointment at a time. Once we evaluate your therapeutic goals and determine the appropriate duration and location for your walk or hike, we will schedule accordingly. Exceptions for recurring outdoor sessions may be made on a case-by-case basis, depending on location, timing, and clinical fit.
